The history needs to start with the history of Newcomers. When Newcomers was founded in 1992 by seven women who had just moved to Forsyth County, the purpose was to make friends and help one another acclimate to new surroundings along with getting recommendations to local doctors, hair salons, restaurants, etc. Through this club, lifelong friendships were formed and members with similar hobbies created interest groups to share activities such as discussing books, playing bridge or bunco and doing needlework. Four years later in 1996 the group had grown to more then 300 members. It became difficult to find a suitable place to meet and Interest Groups were overflowing. The longer-term members decided that since they were no longer true "newcomers" it was time to form a new club - a sister club to Newcomers. The purpose of this organization was three-fold: to allow more Newcomers; to enable the Newcomers Club to continue helping new arrivals to become more comfortable in their new community; and to provide a continuing home for the longer term members to maintain the close ties and friendships formed in Newcomers. Hence, Postscripts was created and the two groups existed happily side by side until June, 2008. This group of women "Postscripts" moved forward with enthusiasm, optimism and a desire to bring the best of Postscripts together with new ideas, activity groups and a new name that reflects our new goals. In 2008 the Forsyth County Ladies League was established and we are now 300 members again. We cherish the fun we have had, and the friendships we have made over the years and we welcome the opportunity to form new firendships as we move forward. |
